Using recordings from Logic Pro in Windows platform

Hi, newbie question so sorry if this is a bit dumb...

What I need to know is whether multi-track files (i.e. a project containing seperate bass, drum, vocal tracks etc.) created in Logic Pro 9 can be used on a Windows PC to record additional tracks? I plan on plugging guitar directly into a line 6 ux1 and from there recording additional tracks with a view to exporting the files back to Logic Pro.

Is this possible? I'm assuming the project in Logic pro can be exported as an AIFF file and opened in a program which supports this file type and then saved also as an AIFF file and re-opened in Logic.

If this is correct, can you also recommend a good cheap/free program in Windows I could use?

I only have a PC so the alternative is to buy a macbook and Logic pro which is obviously quite expensive! Hope this makes sense and someone can help! Thanks

Yeah you just export each track as an .aif or .wav, then reload them in your DAW of choice.

For PC, look no further than Reaper.

As said, most PCs can handle AIFF files (though that depends on the DAW, not the computer).

One possible spanner in the works...if some of your tracks are only partial length or if you've already got some mix automation set, have a check to see if you can save in OMF format (this sends extra info like timing and automation along).

In my experience OMF can be rather unreliable (and I don't know what OMF capabilities Logic or Reaper have) but worth looking at if you need it.

Do not really know what I am talking about but....

Could you not install Reaper on the mac and then Rewire to Logic?

Dave.

Most information has already been provided, I would just add, rendering the tracks for export is the easiest. Exporting and getting same effects, automation, etc. between two different DAWs is rather complex and sometimes impossible. If you render the tracks with it being processed, then you an add your part, export that out.

I assume Logic will carry the master I would then just render your part and send that back to the master for further processing as you probably won't touch any of the other recordings.

Reaper +1 - its free to download and try out, $60 to register. Any *free* DAW (like Audacity) will be limited and probably not do what you want.

Q: Logic Pro only works on Macs? That's pretty dumb-ass!

Sonar only works on Windows.
FruityLoops only works on Windows.
Logic is not the only platform snob.

The nice thing about Reaper is that the Windows and Mac versions will run the same project files.
And the license covers both platforms.
I moved from XP to OSX last year and never had a problem with my Reaper stuff.

As long as you're staying with the same DAW, then in today's world (didn't use to be this way), there should be no problem, as stated, using the complete project. It has more to do with the DAW than the platform.

Thanks for all your replies people, much appreciated and has been really helpful!
