Using Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro3. Is there a way to use a plug-in for a certain part of the song and then have it turned off during other parts of the song?

I can turn it on and off when I listen to the song in mix view but I don't know how to record it that way.

There are a couple of ways to accomplish this in Sonar, but I don't know if GT has the same capabilities.

In Sonar, some FX are automatable. You can automate the wet/dry ratio and set the ratio to 0% wet when you want to turn it off.

The other approach is to put the FX on an aux bus and put an envelope on the send level. This would work with certain effects like reverb, but probably not as well on others where you need the entire track to go through the effect (e.g., compression).

Of course, if all else fails, you can divide the tracks into clips and put the clips you want to effect on one track and the ones you want dry on another. Then, of course, just patch the effect to the one track you want affected.

I think you can even select a portion of a clip (hold down Ctrl while selecting) and apply an effect to that region.

Destructively or non-destructively?

in cubase the tracks have an option to have read and write enabled. when you have write enabled for the track any changes you make like adjust the fader turn on or off plugin eq, ex.. will be recorded

I haven't figured it our either, I do it the ghetto way, take the part of the track I want the specific effect on, cut it out, and put it in another track, I just make sure that the volumes match, and it works for me
