using n-track with win98

I've head alot of people say that windows xp and 2k are the way to go. I'm running windows 98, and was wondering if I'm gonna be alright running n-track on it. My brother has a dell with windows xp on it.. and everything is slow on his pc.. and its got better specs than mine. Recently I have been getting a bunch of system 32 illegal operations, and rundll errors everytime I boot up. trying to figure out how to get rid of em. Even if n-track will run alright in 98 I want to get rid of these errors.. hopefully in an easy manner. Thanks!

I'm running win98se with no problems.

Anytime windows gets flakey, a complete wipe and reinstall is always (imho) a good idea rather than fighting a frustrating battle to find out what might be wrong.

Good time to update all your drivers, too...

Never had any majjor problems under 98 either

I'm now running n-Track under 200 Pro, but I used it on a 98 system for quite a while and it was pretty stable for me as well. For what it's worth, it would be a joke now but when I bought it and first started using n-Track it was a decent machine - 600 MHz PIII, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB 7200 RPM disk.

Maybe if you really load it up with a lot of tracks and effects, MIDI, automation, etc. it might get more flaky, but I usually don't have all kinds of things going on at the same time so maybe that's why I've been fairly lucky.

I have recently upgraded to XP PRO, it is much more stable. However, I didn't have any major issues running n-track in 98.

I would agree with Tim in saying its probably a good idea to reinstall the OS. DLL and system32 errors aren't usually simple things, meaning more headaches than solutions unless you really know your stuff. I used to reformat my harddrive and reinstall the OS between 6 months and a year at most anyways.

If you really want to tackle fixing your OS, or any computer related things, your best bet would be to post computer specific questions in the computer soundcard forum, as many more users browse that area as opposed to the n-track forum (because you know, n-track is this BBS's best kept secret).

I run N-track in 98 and XP. 98 is now, and has always been a mess. I have never had not one problem running N-track with XP.
It's not alway the operating system. Alot of times it has to do with the chipset on your motherboard, processor, hardware, etc. Best bet....buy a Mac.

I still run 98SE and its very stable. If it works , dont fix it. I have 2k pro but swore I wouldnt install it unless I had problems. I will use it for a server(main reason I bought it) but am reluctant to install on my main DAW. Can anybody give me a reason????
