"Choices" - 2nd pass

i took a que from several of your suggestions...
and tried to incorporate them in a new mix of this song...

the biggest changes are:
-in individual track eq's.....
-new panning....
-level changes of individual tracks....
-the programmed "automix" is all new....
-lead vocal was not automixed at all, i actually manually rode the fader on that track....
-mastering parameters are all different, with much milder compression scheme and different eq

any opinions on my experiment are welcome!
and appreciated!
i'm learning.....
or
i'm digging a big hole.....
:D

The only thing I notice that stands out is too much hi hat.

thanks chris, i knew that!

:)

that's the problem with drum machines.....
or at least, certain ones..

mine, only has a stereo output, and no control over the individual parts of the kit....

you find a decent snare, you live with the rest!

LOL

anyone else?

i could use some help......
low end in particular.....

fantastic dist. guitar tone. i'm impressed by your playing too. vox could use some work... maybe find a different 'verb. how are you tracking the vox? i prefer a more clear, up-front sound, but that's subjective i suppose. nice work on the drum machine, too. the kick is a bit boomy, and has no click, and the hats are too loud, but it's definitely one of the better drum machine tracks i've heard on this board.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. sorry. um, uh... ha ha ha ha. no, really, uh... just a second... ha ha. k, wait. ha. uh. yeah.

Get lost homo.

"I actually manually rode the fader on that track" - Ha, I do it all the time. Pretty nice song. Sounds like heavy EL&P. The drums didn't sound that bad to me

spending too much time in amish brothels, brother?

I guess it's time for me to stop feeding the homo....ahem I mean troll

Sounds like the bass could use some more umph.
Try compressing it or simply bringing it up a notch.

keerus-
thanks for listening.....
do you think the vox would sound better dry?
i thought about a dry delay, but it seems so obvious.....
kick, was tough, cuz it's tied into all the other pieces....
hard to fine tune it without buggering up something else....but i agree....
the hats suck!
LOL
the vox are tracked as such:
at4033 into A Designs Audio MP-1 mic pre, into dbx compressor, into the recorder. 80hz rolloff, flat the rest of the way on tracking, a tweak here and there on mixdown.

RayJ-
riding the fader is just the way i've always done it, but i have fancy schmancy automixing on this recorder, so i finally learned how to use it.....
EL&P.... there's a blast from the past!

freeztar-
bass COULD use some more umph....
i tried tracking it louder, but that seemed to introduce more low end stuff i didn't want....
i tracked it using 3 different compressors! one at the pod (fake LA2A), the dbx compressor, and then some 3 band compression on the mixdown......
then some more low end compression on the mastering!
LOL
so, obviously, i need some more training/practice in proper compression techniques..

i DO go lightly on the compression, so as to not kill the original sound.......
