Using Headphone Out for Computer Speakers on Omni Studio

Right now, I have my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 computer speakers connected to one of 2 Amped Stereo Headphone Outs on My Omni Studio Box. Is the sound quality I am getting out of the speakers in any way reduced or coloured because of this setup? Also, is there any optimal setting for the headphone amp gain (1-10)? The only way other way I think I can plug my computer speakers (1/8 stereo jack) into the 2 mono direct outs is if I use something like this- http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=42-2495 and two 1/8-1/4 adaptors. Would this give me better quality sound?

Thanks and all regards,

Ron

It probably doesn't matter if the sound is colored or anything, because computer speakers are hardly accurate in the first place. But it should be fine the way it is for casual recording fun.

If you want to hear what your recordings actually sound like, buy some headphones. They are isolated so you really don't have to worry about an improper monitoring environment.

I have a couple pairs of the AKG K240 studio headphones. They are about $100.

 surely to hear what recordings "actually sound like" you need a good quality pair of monitor speakers? There's no such thing as 'accurate' headphones.

Headphones will not give you an accurate representation of the sound. They may be able to reproduce sounds with detail, but that is a far cry from accurate. Yes they are isolated, but they are TOO isolated. As Blue Bear said, sure it takes the room out of the picture, but it puts each of your ears in their own separate little room. In the natural listening environment of speakers (monitors), you right ear will hear some sound from the left speaker and vice versa. Not so with headphones. Also, since headphones put the drivers so much closer to your ears, proximity effect boosts the lows and mids.

Klipsch are about as good as computer speakers go, but they are still no match for a decent set of monitors. Computer speakers try to make everything sound good. Monitors try to make everything sound like it originally sounded like. If it sounded like crap before, it should sound like crap through the monitors. If it sounded good before, it should sound good through the monitors.
