Using computer as a drum module

Im putting together a homemade electronic kit and i was wondering if id be able to plug the triggers into this trigger to midi interface http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-Trigger-IO-Percussion-Pad-to-Midi-Interface?sku=449754 , go throught the usb to my computer, and then fire up drumagog (or other drum replacement program) and be able to hear those incoming midi signals come out as sampled drums? or in other words, could i use my computer as a drum module? thanks

yes, you can use your computer as a drum module. i don't know if drumagog will fit into that though.

take your pick i suppose. if you're shooting for acoustic drum sounds, dfhs, bfd, ezdrummer, and addictivedrums would all be worth checking into.

i haven't tried that alesis module but it looks like a good idea to me. actually, that module comes with bfd lite. that should get you going and might be all you want in the end.

I thought those were all for creating loops on your computer. Im talking about replacing the module youd use in a regular electronic drumset and instead having the triggered midi signals running through your computer, or can you do that with ezdrummer?

all the above software that i mentioned are proprietary drum samplers. each comes with it's own set(s) of multi velocity samples. each can be controlled via a midi input device such as electronic drums, keyboard, drum pad, etc. each also comes with a midi loop library for quickly throwing together drum tracks without a midi input device. you can use your triggered drums to trigger the samples or midi files.

oh cool, thanks. thats what i was looking for. but i looked through the ezdrummer pdf and i cant find how your suppose to set it up for being controlled with the midi input. Does anybody know how this is suppose to be done?

in your recording software, insert the plugin (ezdrummer for example) on a track. select your midi device (alesis usb i/o for example) as the track's input. take a look at your plugin's manual and find the drum map. it will tell you which note each drum is assigned to. if you need to, and if the plugin allows, change the drum/midi note assignments as you need to get the right drum/midi note relationship for your setup.

any softsynth/midi program would work. DFH superior has the best samples IMO as far as drums go. reason, sampletank etc would all work too.
