Hi. I was wondering. I have a Delta 44 PCI Card with 4 inputs and 4 outputs the computer. I also have a TOA CX-164 Mixer...(Old but still sounds great). I have been recording the snare and kick and two toms and an overhead directly into the delta 44 but i was not getting good sound. I was wondering if the is a way i can go from the mic to the mixer and each channel out seperatly into the delta 44....like so...

Snare mic--->Mixer Channel 1--->Mixer Channel 1 output directly into Delta 44 Input 1.

and same for the kick and toms and overhead. I have protools m-powered but i don't like using the mixer in the software. The rear of the mixer has a mic input, a 1/4 input, and an accessary input and output on each channel. Would i be able to do this with the stuff i have. Would it be worth it mixing through the mixer and then do more eqing in protools with plugins. Thank You.

I'm guessing that the accessary input and output are an insert, but with two jacks. Try using the accesary output and see if that works. If you have two aux sends or busses, then you can use panning tricks to get 4 seperate channels i.e.

left overhead master outputs pan hard left
right overhead master outputs pan hard right
kick aux 1
snare aux 2

Or something like that.

:D

Hmmm...interesting.

Never seen that ,usualy people record the signal in the DAW first and then export them out of the DAW to mix on the analog mixer. It would be a hassle to try to mix in real time going into pc for recording, dont you think?Or am i missing something here?

I think you missed something, or I did. I wouldn't be suprised if it were me. :D

Yeah yeah yeah...But what about my needs?

lol,I get it now,i guess it was me then tourettes5139. :D

What mixer do you have? You be better off having 2 overheads and leaving out the toms. Have overheads left and right panned left and right like said before and connect to the delta 44 out the main outs. If you have prefade aux sends, send the signal of the kick and snare out aux 1 and 2, but turned down at the fader. If you have an 8 or 12 track mixer you should have at least 2 stereo jack inputs. Plug the outputs of the delta 44 into these and use the faders/panning to control volume if you don't like the mixer in pro tools.

4 Busses? Just use them. If you recording four tracks just have channel 1, kick, out bus 1, channel 2, snare, out bus 2, etc. You can only have a maximum of four though. I'm sure you knew that, lol. You can also group them if you need more than 4 inputs, ie. tom1 out bus 1, tom 2 out 2, and overhead, snare and kick out bus 3. Then you can pan bus 1 left, bus 2 right and bus 3 centre. I would suggest getting a matching condenser for overheads to give good stereo, then you coud hav it tom1 and overhead L out bus 1, tom2 and overhead R out bus 2, and bass and snare out bus 3, or 3 and 4. Panned same as last time.
