Hi all,,,
I dont know if i should be posting in another section or not,, but i am thinking that any of you guys posting on this section,, have advanced knowledge of mixers etc,,,
you all are regulary mixing down and mastering,, so i am being presumptious in thinking that this problem will be easily solved by one of you guys.
I hope i havent offended anyone by posting here.
I would really appreciate your advice.

Situation,,,, here goes,,
I use cubase SL3, and have the steinberg M14 interface,, which is great, all working fine, no problems.
I use a korg synth, yamaha electric grand keyboard, electric guitars and a condensor mic. I plug in each instrument when i need it, and record one at a time by pluging into the instrument "in" on the front panel.

I now have a soundcraft spirit folio f100 external mixer.

I have set up the mixer with my amp and monitors,,, fine,,,, no probs.
I have dedicated channels 1 to 6 for different instruments so i can keep the settings the way i want them,, and everything is working as it should.
I am delighted, as this was what i wanted to acheive,,, However,,,, i am getting a bit lost with how the hell the m14 interface connects to the mixer, so that i can record in cubase by selecting the channel i want to record.
I have tried all sorts,,,, the mixer manual suggests how to do this, but seems different to how the m14 manual says to connect.
I have tried every combination,, with no success,,,
The mixer has lots of spare aux, chanel inserts,,,,
the m14 has line in 1,2,3,and 4,,, and insert 1 and 2 ,,free.

I would like to have the m14 permanently connected to the mixer, so that when i open cubase , i just pick which mixer channel i want to use to record,,, and away you go.

I have a couple o rack fx, parametric eq and a compressor which i havent even got around to connecting up,, but i will aproach that one when i get the damn thing to do what i want with the interface.
I have been at this for weeks,,, its really getting me down.
Hope someone can help,,,
Cheers,, kev.

I will take a stab -

Your "soundcard" - the m14 has only 4 inputs. If it were me I would run 4 outs from your mixer's "group outs" (if it has 4) into the m14. In cubase you will have to select one of the four group outs as your input. You will have to set the mixer channel you want to record to go to the group out you have selected in cubase. Does that make sense?

Hi NL5,,,
Thanks for having a stab !!!!!

The m14 has 4 "line ins " on the rear,,, an instrument "in" on the front. On the rear there is 2 balanced xlr,s also midi in and out, and inset 1 and 2.

The mixer has free,,,,aux 1,2 and 3,,,mono sum,,L and R mix insert,,,
There is a line, insert and xlr for each channel, but 6 of these have seperate instruments plugged into the line sockets,, my mic will go into channel 7 or 8 xlr.

I have the Land R output from the m14 connected to the 15R and 16L sockets, as this is what the manual advised.
Its not very clear to me at all.

Sorry but i am a bit dim on all this "group outs " ect,,,,What exactly do you mean ????

Well, it sounds like you might have a bit of trouble - I am not too familiar with your mixer. I think you can do what I said abouve, only instead of the group outs use your aux outputs.
