hi, i am having a technical issue with my keyboard and i was wondering if anyone had come across something similar and might be able to help...

i am using a USB connected midi keyboard (the keyrig 49 by m-audio) and have plugged it in to be used for midi recording. i set up in peripherals in pro tools and in the midi setup devices window on my mac, i can see the m-audio controller, but only with an input option - no output. i can play the instruments via aux files within pro tools and can hear the sounds, but the notes aren't actually written to the track when i try to record.

does anyone have any idea how to solve this?
thanks!

Hey,

Here is how I setup my m-audio keystation. Create a midi track and an aux track. I put a midi sampler (either Xpand or Reason) on an insert on the aux track. The input on the midi track is set to the keystation and the output on the midi track is set to go to the synth; with expand you just select the instance of expand you want to use on that midi track, with reason you select the specific synth. Arm the midi track to record and you should be able to hear the samples.

I hope this helps!

Your problem is that Aux tracks don't store any audio or data. You should be using a MIDI track bussed to an aux track, or even better, use an Instrument track, which combines the two.
