Would that work ok if i were to use these two together, i felt i should ask first, as they're both 'technically' Audio interfaces, but the alesis master control is also a Control surface, i probably wouldn't use the inputs on it at all, but if i were to, would that be ok, using them as well as the Firestudio?
also does anyone know if the firestudio is firewire or USB?
thanks

ALSO, what exactly is the difference between the PreSonus FP10 (firepod) and the PreSonus FireStudio? which is better? there doesnt seem to be any real difference? and the price is the same...

Not sure why you want to, but, I assume you will use ASIO drivers and ASIO only allows one audio device (interface at a time).

Now, as you mentioned, the Mastercontrol is audio interface and control surface. So, you could use the ASIO driver for the Firestudio and the midi driver for the Mastercontrol. So you get Firestudio audio interface and Alesis Mastercontrol control surface.

Question again is why. Why do you have both? If you had a Firestudio and wanted a control surface, there are better choices than the Alesis Mastercontrol. If you had a Mastercontrol, why get a Firestudio?

So to answer your question, fence the Firestudio and keep the hot Alesis Mastercontrol, it does both. :D

well basically, i want the fire studio as an audio interface, as it has 8 xlr inputs, and i want the alesis master control as a control surface, cus i'd much rather have a control surface than using a mouse lol..
i would go for the mastercontrol by itself, but it only has 2 xlr inputs, and i'd rather have more.
you said there are better choices than the master control, any suggestions? are they in the same price range, as i've only seen more expensive ones than the master control,
thanks

ok,
I have a Mastercontrol and love it. For what you want, have a look at how you can use the Mastercontrol. It only has 2 XLR's, but it has ADAT and can be a 26 input interface.

So, control surface and interface. Now, if you need more inputs especially XLR, check out preamps with multiple inputs and ADAT out. Send that to the Mastercontrol and Bob's your uncle! Not a Firestudio, look at the Presonus Preamps:

What DAW are you using?

i've been playing around with Ableton and Reason recently, but i'm probably going to use Cubase or Pro Tools once i get my Audio interface, whatever i end up getting,
what preamps would you suggest for use with the master control? and are you happy with your master control?

If your going to use pro tools, you have to get a Digi interface to run it.

Digidesign. In order to run pro-tools LE, you have to be using a digidesign interface. Or a m-audio for pro-tools M-Powered.

Is Pro tools really that great? how about cubase, i'd definately rather have physical buttons and knobs etc, than having to use a mouse, and the Master control works with cubase, and it doesnt seem like there are any control surfaces that work with Pro tools? (at least in my price range)
