Using a POD for bass tone

I've got a stock $700 Yamaha bass that sounds decent through my POD, but I'd like more punch and clarity. I am an advanced-intermediate player (I know that MUCH of great tone comes out of the player!), but I'm wondering about compressing/limiting/normalizing/e.q.ing bass tracks to give more tone and less "low end rumble". I like I tighter, more focused tone for bass. Any tips on how to get that with my gear?

Use the compression on the POD and crank up the Effects Tweak. Try the different AMP and Cab models and see what works. You can edit the Pod a lot easier with the software if you have a midi port on your computer.

Even though I've now got a Bass Pod, I still occasionally use my Pod for bass.

I've found the "Tweed Blues" works best (it's modelled on a '59 Bassman, after all).

Like Tex says, just crank up the compression, dial in a fair bit of bottom and you'll have a fine sound.
