I revently bought sonar 6 and am planning out the recording process. I think the way im going to go is to run all the lines for recording into the mixer and run the mixer into the computer. I am new to this, however several of the guys i will be working with are more expeienced. I guess is what im asking is how this would work?

that's exactly the way I do it MOST of the time. If you like your board preamps, even better. Also, a lot of the time, I run the computer back out into the mixer, splitting the computer outputs into blocks of like tracks, or subgroups...or even individual tracks...depending. However, I am doing that less and less and mixing completely in the computer.

yeah the preamps will def suffice. How would i go about hooking my board up to the computer though? what kind of input should i use on an interface?

what we do in the studio is similar, except it's also routed to a rack mounted CD burner.

take a line level out of your mixer to the line in on your soundcard. Use what ever adapters to get the right sized connections, or make/buy a special cable, etc.... When you start overdubbing, you'll need to be able to keep what you are recording and the previously recorded tracks separate, but be able to hear both.
If this is all extremely new to you, I'd suggest finding a book or something getting you started with computer recording. It will probably answer most of common questions and get you going.

I'm using my mixer mainly for summing purposes. However I hooked my mixers line in's to a patchbay and normalled those connections to the outputs of my audio interface. This way I can plug my keyboards into the patchbay and use the pres.

Start with an 8 in/out pci card like the m-audio delta 1010LT. Direct outs (or inserts) from your mixer, into 8 unbalanced rca jacks. That will give you 8 tracks at once.

Or go the firewire route with something like a firepod. More expensive though, the delta cards are around $200, firepod $500
