I was wondering what alll I would need to record a band "Live", using my DAT machine...
Any help would be appreciated.

Your DAT machine most likely has RCA type jacks for input. These would need to be at "line level" You would need a pre-amp or some kind of mixer and several microphones. This could be as easy as taking an out from your PA mixer, if everything in the band goes through the board. (Not likely un less you have a big PA mixer!)

Drums=4 mikes minimum
Guitar=2 if stereo is desired
Bass= 1 direct or mic on speaker cab
Other? 1, 2, 0r 3 more?
Vocals 2 or more?

You could get by with a 12 or 16 channel board. 24 would be better!

If your DAT has microphone inputs, just plug in 2 mikes and move them around in front of the band to get a balance of all the instruments.
