Used Tube MP's: is this a good deal or not? (Time sensitive)

Was in a local music shop yesterday and noticed that they had 2 ART Tube MP mic pre's (used) on sale for $74 each. I've been meaning to get some mic pres anyway, but I don't know enough about this gear to know if this is a good price or not. If so, I'll probably grab them (assuming they're still there), and if not I'll either get a couple at Guitar Satan or wherever for $99, OR, take any new advice into consideration on the matter. I want to get some ART pres with tube because I like sonusman's idea of using them during mastering. BTW, the store DOES have a tube tester on site so I could chechk the tubes before buying.

Any and all advice/comments - especially FAST ones - will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

P.S. - as soon as this issue is resolved one way or the other, I'll delete this thread so it won't waste space or time.

$74 for USED seems steep. There is always a risk with used equipment. I would pay the extra $25 for NEW.

I sold my Tube MP, perfect condition, for $50 through the classifieds here !

Peace,
Rick

Music-go-round, huh? Which one are you going to? If you happen to be going out to Hurstborne, theres some things I want you to check on for me :) I'm getting ready to ride out to Outer Loop right now. Hurstborne is too damn far.
$75 is too high, by the way... I looked at em too. Get the Tube MP Studio, with the VU meters.

Yeah, it's Hurstborne. Damn, this world is WAY too small, you know? I'm leaving in about 15 minutes, so if you want anything, you better email QUICK. I also liked the look of the Tube MP Studios...and especially the rack mount stereo version, but it won't be available for awhile. I'll probably order a couple of MP studios, and then if I like them, maybe add the rack unit later. Unless there's a better option anyone knows about.

Thanks for the advice.

I was gonna ask you to make a mental note of any mic preamps they had, regardless of price. In particular anything Focusrite.
Did they have any good mics in?

Done. They didn't have jack sh*t except for the Tube MPs.

In particular anything Focusrite.

You know, I've noticed that a lotta music type guys from Louisville have this really warped, deadpan kind of humor. Must be something in the water...

Nah, one APHEX (did I spell that right) Large diaphragm mic going for around $250. I was in a hurry, so I didn't look too close. They did have a neat looking stereo compressor/EQ from some company called Avalon for $179. Are those any good? It looked kinda cool, kinda retro..... ;)

Maybe we'll run into each other one of these days, seeing as you live right down the street. Or maybe we'd only be competing for the same "bottom feeder" gear all the time.

Later,
Chris

Man...I hope it was $1799 or I'd have to take a road trip to KY!

I keep waiting for the pawn shops around here to get a minimoog in and say "WTF is this" and put a $100 price tag on it. I've heard stories... ;)

I would say go for it, because the pice ($74) is a good price for a used MP. I say this because I got a used MP from Musicians Friend for $84; it was a "Scratch and Dent" item.

Sorry! Like I said, it's something in the water. That was in response to Tubedude's request that I look for Focusrite preamps. If you could see this store, you'd know how funny that request was. Funny in a sick kinda way, but still funny nevertheless.

You ass... I just now got the joke... I actually called up there to make them an offer on it. I'd love to have an Avalon.
Damn... disregard your email, I guess...
One day I'll have this good shit, one day....

DOH!!!!! :o

I thought you knew I was joking! That's why I put the little winking smiley on the post...Uh, like I said, it's something in the water. Now, if we ever meet, you'll be looking to kick my ass instead of shake my hand... OOPS! Sorry about that.

Man, I'd love to have an Avalon myself someday. How's about you agree to forgive me if I admit that I owe you one? Hey, at least you didn't make the trip...

Chris
