Recording Modus Operandi
I'm in the market to score a used one. What should I keep my eyes open for?

What's your budget? What do you plan to use it on? How many channels of compression do you need?

Two channels would be adequate, 4 channels nice. Using it for a live rock band's vocals. Anything less than a grand would be cool. TY

For live stuff, keep your eyes out for BSS, Drawmer and XTA comps. You may even be able to find 4 channels for a grand, with the Drawmers it all depends on which line you go with, and you can get into the Drawmer line new for under a grand for 4 channels.

Thanks X. The Drawmer line looks sweet. Can't wait to hear it.

Another compressor that you see a lot in live racks is the DBX 160. There are three versions: the 160X, 160XT, and 160A. The 160A is the most recent, and the 160X is the original. You can find the older ones used for around a couple hundred each.

An excellent compressor that is a little less known is the Aphex Expressor 651. The prices these go for used make them one of the best compressor deals on the planet. These are serious, great compressors.

Many thanks Albert, I will give them a look at also.
