Is there a way to use a MIDI control devise to playback WAV files from my PC? I read about MIDI controllers triggering MID files, but I don't understand how to execute a WAV. I want to be able to have different synth keys trigger

I have very basic gear: my PC with Soudforge 7 and Acidpro 4, a Yamaha DJX synth, and a Numark CM100 mixer. The manuals for my programs do a lot of assuming that I know what I'm doing in the first place.

I'm new to MIDI and am just not understanding some of the basics of making everything "talk" to each other. If anyone has any help or suggestions, I would be truly be grateful.

First, read these two good articles on midi basics -- part one and part two.

WAV is what the PC sample format is called, and it has become the defacto standard for most sample playback devices.

Your DJX will be a good start as a midi controller, and I suggest that you download the Tracktion demo here and play with it for a while. Tracktion has both and easy to understand sampler that uses WAV files and an easy method for inserting WAV files into the current track.

The good thing about starting with Tracktion is if you like it it's only $150 to buy the full version.

You don't mention a midi interface in your list of gear, and if you don't have one this would do the job, in addition to being compatable with any USB or Firewire audio interface you would buy in the future.

thanks for the info!

i'll look into all of that, especially the program!
