So what has the fastest data transfer rate? Which one is better for audio? A salesman at L&M tells me that USB 2.0 is better than fire wire, that's news to me, so what's the story here?

i'd still go with PCI...i think speed is all relative to what the other device is thats going into each one of them. by theirselves its pci-usb2.2-firewire-usb 2.0-usb.....i think though

Technically the speed of firewire is superior then USB 2.0.
And although a pci card is connected the computer I just learned that is isnt necessarily faster then firewire.
And it does at these speed really matter on the device sending.
Firewire is the industry standard for video transfer for a reason. Fast, reliable, and portable!!!
It matters if you want to use the a/d d/a on a laptop or is it just for one tower recording
But if they told you usb 2 is faster then firewire then they didnt know what they were talking about.

Yeah,
fast ............Firewire-1394a has a speed of 400mbps
faster ........Usb-2.0 has a speed of 480mbps
fastest ......Firewire-1394b has a speed of 800mbps (is out now)
Plus-
Don't know the timeline but,
Firewire will increase speed to 1600mbps
and then...3200+ mbits
