Q1: How long of a cable can I use to connect my device?
A1: In practice, the USB specification limits the length of a cable between full speed devices to 5 meters (a little under 16 feet 5 inches). For a low speed device the limit is 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches).

Does this apply to a MIDI keyboard? I'm using the old USB (1.1?) and the 88 key M-Audio MIDI keyboard. MIDI data is small so I'm not sure if I need a repeater.

If I do, what's a good, cheap, repeater I can use? I need at least another 10ft but want to go with 20ft since that will give me plenty to move it around, etc.

The length thing souinds right. I dont think I have ever seen a cable over 12ft. And most usb hubs over a certain length are powered units.
