USB not reading mixer input

I’m just starting out, so I bought a Beranger Xenyx X1832USB, some mics and cords etc…
I cant get my computer to read or recognize the USB input from the mixer. I have tried a couple sound cards, a Sound Blaster Live and a Sound Blaster Audigy2 with no success. I have of coarse installed the USB ASIO Driver and tried to configure it too. I have Windows Vista operating system on my PC.
My question is… Is there an interface or a keyboard that would be a simple answer to my problem? At this point I’m looking for a work around. I blew my budget on the mixer and mics thinking I would plug it in and record? I’ve struggled for weeks before reaching out, any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you have a USB mixer then you do not want to be (and should not be) using your sound cards. Your mixer becomes your sound card. After installing the drivers for the mixer, your next step is to use a program to record with. In this program is where you will select the drivers for your mixer. So, what program are you using to record with??

I have Audacity, EnergyXT 2.6 and Fruity Loops installed and I have tried each one on multiple occasions.
When at first it didn’t work, I turned to the net to find articles about the problems others had with ASIO Driver configuration and different sound cards.

As low budget as it is, your Behringer 'IS' your soundcard. For not only the recording program that you install, but for everything, including Windows. Select it as you default sound device in windows, and every other software that you use. Connect your listening devices (monitors/headphones/computer speakers) to it. It should be your only audio link from your computer.

You may need to download drivers for the Behri mixer website. It is common for the driver/install disc to be either not included with the mixer, not the right one for your computer, or just completely stupid in some way. Go to the website to find the one (driver) that fits your setup. Install and select it as default for everything.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt, do not use ASIO4All, do not use any internal, or even external gaming/playback card like a SoundBlaster. EVER! They are not made for recording.

Keep us posted as to how this works out for you. We are here to help you out. :)

Audacity is generally unsuited to multitrack recording. It's an audio editor and has its uses, but I'd never actually use it as a DAW. Nonetheless it should be able to recognise your mixer. I can't give you any advice on that one apart from getting a "real" DAW (Reaper is free for 30 days) and trying that.

The first things to do is make sure you've downloaded and installed the latest Behringer drivers for your mixer (if they provide any).

Second, go to the audio control panel for Windows, select the Recording tab and click in the white area between any shown devices. This should bring up a menu-on that, make sure there's a tick by "Show disconnected devices" and "Show disabled devices". With luck, that might make your Behringer show up.

Ok... I uninstalled the Sound Blaster soundcard, there is an integrated sound card. Went to Behringer and downloaded another driver for Vista 32/64 bit and viola I have meters dancing on fruity loops and its recording but I’m not getting any sound from my computer speakers? speakers work for other media just not my DAW (either fl studio or EnergyXT). I'll probably try Reaper next chance I get. Monitors work on my mixer, but not for playback. Thanks to all that responded to my post, it is greatly appreciated!

If your speakers are connected to your computer's sound card, you won't hear your playback through them. The ASIO driver only 'sees' one I/O and that is your USB mixer. That means you need to connect your speakers or headphones to your mixer to listen to your playback.

There's routing controls on the Behringer mixer to send the playback from the computer to the main outs and/or monitors. You generally have to switch this to a different setting depending on whether you're recording or playing back a take.

Time for the manual methinks!
