Usb Mixer as Audio Interface

I've been using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro as my recording interface. I've noticed a static sound coming through the speakers lately. It doesn't happen all the time, it's just random. And it doesn't affect recording or anything, but it's noticeable and annoying. I'm going to look into returning it. Although I got it from a friend, and he paid for it with his credit card. I do have his original receipt though, so that should help.

Anyway, off track, I want to bypass the Fast Track Pro if I can. My set up is like this. Mic -> mixer(not connected by Usb just plugged in) -> FTP -> Computer. Now the way I see it, the Fast Track Pro seems like an unnecessary step. I mean, the mixer, and the Fast Track Pro essentially do the same thing(The Fast Track Pro just doesn't have the gain or playback volume that I need while recording, so that's where the mixer comes in handy).

What I'd like to know is, how I can make this set up work. I need to get my computer to recognize the mixer as an external sound card. By the way, the mixer is a Peavey PV8 Usb mixer. As of now, when I tried it, I got no sound out of the computer. I'm also using ASIO4ALL.

Thanks (:

Does windows recognize the PV8 when you plug it in? Did you unplug the FTP first? what DAW are you using?

I'm using Reaper. Yes, the FTP was unplugged, and I used the cord that was connecting it, to plug in the mixer.

Edit: No, it didn't recognize it. I'm going to reboot my computer.

Update: Okay, I rebooted, and now Windows recognizes my mixer. I can also hear everything through Reaper. I figured out that the problem was with a program I have called Maschine. And now it won't stop crashing when I pull it up and try to set it up with my mixer.

Yes, it did. I actually got it specifically for that purpose, because a friend of mine had one and said it would work. But I don't really understand why it would work with one, but not the other.

Sorry I have never used Maschine. But you might try unplugging the mixer, starting Maschine, going in and maybe turning the defaults back on, closing the app - plug the mixer back in and start it up again - it might be trying to use the FTP driver or something. GL

I figured it out! For some reason when I go into the settings and try to change the driver through the driver tab, it crashed. What I did was go to the device tab and change the driver there. Seems stupid to me, but hey, I'm just happy it works. Thanks a lot for your help!
