Hi, I'm going to be honest. I know diddly 'bout microphones just that I need to get a usb mic, that can handle recording acoustic/electric and vocals. I'd say I would like to cap it around $100 price tag but if it can't be avoided quality is worth a few payments.

i apologise for the spam and stupid question.
and thank you in advance.

Most of your USB mics are geared tword spoken word (ala podcast) and are really ment to sit on a desk in one spot. I imagine that moving that mic around alot the way you move a studio mic around would be taxing on the USB connector. It would be the cheapest way to go it is a mic with a built in interface, but it sounds like you are wanting to record a little more than a USB mic was intended for.

What are your long term goals? what are your recording going to be for? are you just planning on doing demos or are you do you plan on recording an album eventually?

Would you be willing to buy used?

I think even for just acuostic and electric guitar you are going to want to use a mic with an xlr connetor, those are made to move about. of course that would mean that you would need an inerface/mic-pre.

you won't find a mic and interface for around $100 new but used I am certain you can find a simple interface with one mic input for around $50 and then you can get a used mic.

Yeah, i only intend to really do demos and record my practicing. I use goldwave to record and sony acid pro to mix if i'm going any further with the song.

i was afraid of that. I can't really shell out a lot of dough as school starts in 3 weeks. I guess its time to start another stash o' cash.

Well, I'm glad someone here is willing to waste money on a USB mic so we finally have an informed opinion.:D

its only a waste if it doesnt fit his purposes.

it seems to, so, no... its not a waste.

I have the samson Co1u and its pretty good. I bought a while back just for some podcast stuff but ended up recording some songs with it. Vocals sound pretty good but I havent tried any acoustic guitar so I cant really comment on that part. Best bet is to look at some reviews for them and see what others are saying about them recording acoustic instruments. Im not going to give you the usb mics suck over reg mics because it sounds like you are looking for simplicity and cheap. USB mics are the way to go but you have to know that I wouldnt recommend it for any serious recording...at all.

I guess you missed the smiley face at the end of my post, so here it is again:

This little "emoticon" is often used to indicate when someone is ribbing someone. After you've been here a while you'll get it.

Until then,(without me helping you) try to figure this one out in response to your post .

The USB mic I'd _like_ to get is the Oktava MK-012 USB, because that would give me about a dozen capsules to pick from -- the ubiquitous MK-012 SDC cardioid head would be great for acoustic guitar, and one of the medium- or large-diaphragm capsules would work well for vocals.

I suspect the Lomo M1 and M3, and the Red capsule for MK-012 would work too, but I haven't heard of anyone trying it yet.

Haha yes they are kind of a waste of money. Did some podcasting before I got into recording so I had bought all of these cheap mics off MF for all the people podcasting with me.

Actually, I've been thinking about getting one to have at home for when ideas hit me. Then I can throw it down without heading to the studio.
