Make sure you only use Taiyo Yuden blanks (now owned by JVC I understand).

They invented the CD-R and they are still the very best. I will use nothing else.

Ideally also burn slow - I found the best quality was at x8 on my Plextor drive tested with PlexTools - slower or faster and the errors increased.

Unfortunately my non-profit hobby means that what people give me, is what I use, and isn't the best. I've got some memorex blanks right now. I absolutely, positively hate that brand. I much prefer TDK brand, but not perfect either. Sony blanks rank right up there with memorex. So many brands which make the lottery seem like good odds.

As far as the OP, use something good. I know it's just kids, but if you're getting paid to teach them and it's not just a church thing. Or if the kids are good enough to warrant recording. You don't want to do it poorly. Not in todays society anyway. Not with the way that you'll get fired from your minimum wage fast food job because you ate at some other restaurant. And other things that make me wonder how we got here from there, and how that is somehow better than living in caves.

But blank disks are so cheap now.

I can get a tub of 100 Taiyo Yuden for about £20 (or £24 for 50 x Watershield inkjet printable).

I remember when blank CD-Rs were £17 *EACH*
