usb keyboards and ezdrummer

Hi. So I'm using cubase 4 and can't get any virtual keyboards to work so I can use them to program ezdrummer. Could I get away with using a usb keyboard or does it have to be MIDI. Might be a silly question but I really dont know.

A usb keyboard is still a midi keyboard... the midi is just shoved into the computer through the usb port.

I have used ezd with Reaper's virtual keyboard and with my Keystation49e usb keyboard, so you must be configuring something wrong.
