USB DIgital Recording Interface

Help! I want to record up to 8 simultaneous inputs into my computer. I don't need pre-amps, but I would like good quality digitizers. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, but 24-bit/192kHz recording would be best. I can interface via USB or Firewire. I want them kept as separate tracks, no mixing until they are in the computer. What do I call this so I can buy such an interface.
Thanks,

Harley

How much is: I don't want to spend a lot of money on this,

And what do you expect from: I don't want to spend a lot of money on this,

Because my first thoughts are the Tascam US-1800 or the new version the US16x08

What kind of pre-amps do you already have, Something like an ADAT? Unless you have pre-amps, most likely you will need pre-amps. You don't have to buy external pre-amps. Lot to choose from at around the $300-600 range.

Out of curiosity, why are you set on 24bit/192kHz sampling?

You may want to have a read of THIS article.

Or, if you want something that summarises it, try THIS which keeps it simpler (but actually refers back to the first post.

Or, if you want the one sentence summary: "There's no reason at all for 192kHz sampling and it may even end up making your recordings sound worse, not better".
