Just wonering:

Anyone know if you can record using a standard PCI audio card and a USB interface at the same time?

Was wondering if adding a USB card would be a viable means of increasing your track count -- as an alternative to buying a new card with more inputs (?)

Reason I'm asking is that I'm eyeing up the Apogee mini me (which is usb based) and wondering what kinds of possibilities something like that could hold. Thanks!

Dude... As much as that thing costs, you could get all the inputs you want with a variety of interfaces.

True, but I'd rather have two channels of "real sweet" over several more of "semi-sweet." I think I'm ready for a step up to gear-snob level a/d conversion / clock / mic pres, etc. :D And this bad boy actually seems reasonably cheap compared to what else is out there if you want two (gear-snob level) mic pres and two channels of (gear snob level) a/d conversion.

But I'll go with ya on this one, just for fun. Let's say I went with a more reasonably-priced option. Say an Audiosport Duo / Quattro. Would I be able to run it alongside my PCI card-based sound card as a means of adding more inputs? And let's pretend I'm flat out of available PCI slots.

No.

This question has come up before. There is no easy/cheap way to sync two cards together unless they were desgined to do that. The clock crystals each keep their own time and eventually tracks will drift apart when recording. Cards that support some kind of external clock/timecode reference can do that.

M-Audio drivers for their Delta series cards let you cascade up to 5 cards together in sync.

Thanks for the info, brzilian.

I apologize if this has already been talked about. I was simply trying to get a guage on exactly what kind of possibilities the Mini-me might hold. It appears that it doesn't have an I/O for an external clock (from what I can gather). So now I know that this would really be more of a device I might look at for track-at-a-time, or for critical overdubs, I suppose.

Thanks again.
