what up. just got a us-122 and think its the shit until i plug it in and realize that its skippin constantly on playback. what the hell?

universal serial bus... shouldnt that mean anythin works in this thing. then i read in the tascam manual that my usb thing matches one of the usb chipsets they tested except instead of bein the 82801 AA i have the 82801 BA/BAM.

so this is tellin me a couple letters is gonna stop me from testin out my new akg 535?

does anybody have this problem and if they do id like some help.

Alright...I was having the same problem. I upgraded RAM and that didn't do that much. I recommend that you do all the adjustments to your computer that it tells you to do.

I found that all the skipping stopped when I adjusted the latency to 256. It skipped and stuttered on any other setting. You'll find this setting in the Control Panel under the US-122 icon.

Another thing that I found helped stop jittering and skipping was to turn the 'follow song' option off.

hope that helps a little!

Also try running the sync tests in the Asio window. It kept reading my system was unstable until i put the latency down to 256.

For some reason my computer kept losing contact with the soundcard...even when I wasn't doing anything sound related. Oddly enough...i discovered if I plug something else into my other USB port...I don't have the problem of it dropping out. I can't explain it...maybe just another microsoft quirk

Let us know how you go!

damn i just checked my email. i did the latency to 256 thing like u said. but how do you get to the asio window?

same problem

i just got a us-122. i installed it on my win xp laptop and it's crap. skips and stutters constantly. i've tried several software packages, and they all have the same problem. changing the latency in the us-122 control panel didn't seem to help.

Sorry it's not working for you, Andy, but it works great on my little underpowered iBook 800 using Garageband and Audacity, and on my P4 2.8 ghz PC using Audacity and Sonar 3. I also know several others who use it just fine on both PCs and Macs, so I'd suggest looking at your system and seeing if you'r overloading the USB bus while recording - scanners, printers, mice, keyboards, etc, all suck up that USB bandwidth.

naw, none of that

this is running on a lean and mean enough machine that's optimized for audio. there is nothing else running on a USB bus... oh... except for the removable dvd-cdr combo drive... an interesting thought. maybe that's messing it up. lemme remove it and check the us-122 again. i would love it if that were it...

we now pause for a breif intermission

no that doesn't seem to be it. still skipping and sputtering...

this is not just latency folks, this is like seriously malfunctioning...

damn

If you are running XP, you need to download Service Patch 1 from Microsoft. There is an audio bug in XP. Once you do this, all will be fine. I have the US-428, and mine did the same thing.

Hope this helps,

i got SP1

i have windows XP home service pack 1 installed. i've had SP1 on this machine since the beginning.

i checked windows update--nothing there about any updates for audio bugs...

tascam says...

tascam says to download and install the "messenger update."
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=2C35AA44-CD9F-4424-922A-8E98BC1A0A2C

however, since i already have SP1 installed on my system, i can't install this update. tascam says they can't help me do it, i have to ask microsoft for help. microsoft says my version of windows is OEM, i have to contact compaq. compaq tech support is completely incompetant...

so now i'm left with a solution, but no way to implement it. i've gone back to tascam begging for help. wish me luck.

the usual stuff has to be asked first...

are you optimized for music? stuff like processor scheduling and turning off all background services makes a huge difference in windows.

then there is spyware and viruses.

your music box should not go on the internet unless you are prepared to deal with some serious maintenance. iDeally we would all have a box for music, one for internet, and one for messing with...

not that simple

this problem is not that simple. i have no adware, spyware, virus protection, no programs at all other than audio. my audio playback was fine until i installed the US-122. my laptop is completely optimized for audio. i'm no amateur and i'm sure that the system is as lean and mean as possible. i should have no problems playing a full multitrack mix with effects, much less a single wave file... but i can't play back any audio at all through the US-122 without skipping and stuttering. tascam says install this messenger update, which of course i am unable to install...

Same Problem Here

I Have The Same Problem. When Using Us-122 The Plaback Is Skipping Constantly. I've Tried All The Solutions Above, None Worked. After Some Testing I Notised That The Problem Occur Only On Cubase. Itried Using Us-122 On Logic And It Worked Fine. It Also Worked Fine On Cubasis But Not On Cubase. Strange. For The Protocol- Im Using Cubase 2 On Compaq N800v Notebook Computer. Any Ideas?

i ran out of patience. after not being able to install the mythical messenger update, i gave up. i've sold my us-122 on ebay, and i actually got more than i paid for it originally! so it's all good. i've got a pcmcia firewire card coming to me and i'm going to save up a bit more money to get an m-audio firewire interface... probably the 410 but maybe the audiophile. my advice--toss the US-122 and tell tascam that they suck...

...

andy - i have the us 122 and had the exact same problem. i know very little about recording, so i can't check all of the "trouble shooting" kind of things. anyways, i was pissed about this cause tascam didn't email me back and steinberg aparantely doesn't endorse cubasis anymore? so i've had it since december and just this past week i hooked it up so that my PA would monitor it, just to see if the PA could be used to monitor, and it works now. that was the only thing i did differently.

Skipping & Blue screens

Hello All, new to the group. I've also got problems with skipping audio running a US-122 on my 1.2Ghz laptop. Have optimised for audio, added memory, applied service packs etc etc... but still skips. In addition to that, with both Cubasis VST & Sonic, my laptop keels over & dies (blue screen of death).
Getting increasingly p*****d off - any more ideas? (other than sell it)??

sell it... i just sold mine for more than the purchase price. this unit is, in my opinion, not compatible with windows xp, and tascam should own up to that fact. it'd save them and their consumers (or former consumers, in my case) a lot of headaches.

Us-122

MMmmm, sort of coming to that conclusion too - what did you replace it with?

nothing yet. when i can afford it i'm going to get an m-audio firewire audiphile or 410

wow i was thinking of getting one, but serious second thoughts now.

sounds like you tried most everything, glad you got your money back at least :)

anyway, surprised that you couldn't just up the latency or something, but man, let us know what you do get at some point :D :D
