Hi there

I have just bought a tascam us-122 and I'm trying to use the free Cubasis software - it's driving me nuts!!!

I've installed the drivers, oms, and cubasis on my imac (os 9.2) - but I can't get anything decent in the way of sound out of the thing.

Cubasis registers the notes I've played on the keyboard - and I can hear it when I switch the us-122 to direct monitor - but I have to have all the volume controls on full.

I've tried the demo song and that plays okay - at a good volume.

I've checked the sounds control panels. ie. control panels > sounds
output = us-122
input = us-122 - but here there is a box which says "settings for input device and source" - then a box saying "play sound through output device" - if I check this box, it immediately unchecks itself (!!?!!) - so I cannot choose to have the output audio played through the device (ie. the us-122).

If anyone has any ideas what I can do, I'd really appreciate some help - the place where I bought the us-122 don't know anything about using it with a mac - I've spent 3 days on this - plus Cubasis keeps crashing (it disappears from the screen saying either "error type 1 - or type 3 - or type 84 has occured").

Does anyone know of a decent/easier/free software program to use with us-122 on imac os 9.1?

Sorry it's such a huge post - hope someone can help.

cheers

j.

1. first off if you search under my name youll see i'm not a big fan of usb.
many folks have had problems. it seems to vary with the individual users computer. on some it works great. on others it doesnt.
2. now - its been awhile since i tried cubasis but like most multitrack programs you have to tell the multitrack software which sound device you wish to use.
in this case the 122 in and out presumably . THIS IS IN CUBASIS THE SOFTWARE ITSELF , normally under preferences. and there you set your audio and midi preferences. eg : recording rates; 16 bit 44,1khz. if you havent set the right rates. you will get probs prolly. cubasis is quite nice, but like most, needs you to tell it your preferences. remember computers are just dummies waiting to be told what to do.(look in help to see how to set prefs).
then normally you identify the track you want to record to and press record.
make sure your recording also midi to a midi track and not a audio track.
also VERY IMPORTANT - when recording from a midi kbd to a midi track.
BEFORE you try to record. make sure the midi receive channel of the track
you are attempting to record to matches the midi SEND channel on the midi kbd. if you dont do this. you wont get a recording.
if you already have done all of the above with no success i would suggest
emailing tech support to get some problem resolution .
becos i'm out of ideas to help you. sorry.
hope this helps in some small way at least !
good luck and peace.
