Hey dudes, I have a shite Soundblaster Live 5.1 card... Im trying to connect the mono line out of my amp to the line in jack on the card. The Cabling is all mono, the connections and input/outputs work fine. However, I cant get my pc to "hear" the sound through the line in port. I can record through my god awful logitech webcam mic, but the sound is awful. For some reason I cant get any sound from my amp to come through my pc. The volume on the guitar and amp is up far enough, and all settings in the sound control are unmuted. Line in is selected on the recording panel. So if all the hardware is fine, does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? I really need help here, thanks a lot.

In your control panel, there is an icon for Multimedia where you select devices and properties of said devices for recording and playback. Does everything check out there? I'm wondering if, perhaps, you have your webcam selected as your "preferred recording device" or whatever the language is that is used there.

BTW... welcome aboard!! Great handle!

Hey thanks dude :)

And yeah everything in that panel is checked, and the logitech cam is deselected... im completely stumped, ive tried using windows sound recorder and assorted other programs... but it wont work through anything :(. Im a newbie at this, so just to clear it up ill go through my setup... I have my guitar to my amp, a guitar cable from the mono line out into a mono 1/8" adaptor, which goes into the blue line-in port on the card. My speaker is disabled (unless i turn it right up whereby a faint sound comes out) when the adaptor is connected to the lead from the line out, regardless of whether or not it is in the sound card... if you get what I mean, so I think thats ok. It sucks lol... i always seem to run into annoying problems that cant seem to be fixed :p So im sort of making do using the webcam mic... but damn its bad! I guess a last resort would be to buy a decent mic and mic my amp... but id really like to get the line out working... easier on the wallet too.

cheers

A couple of questions -

1) Have you ever used the line out from this amp before? I ask this because I used to own a Roland amp, didn't use the line out for years, then when I finally tried it found it it didn't work (long after the warrenty had expired...)

2) Is the adaptor from 1/4" going to a mono or stereo 1/8"?

3) What software are you using to try to record with?

Hey dude

Yeah the amp line out is standard 1/4" mono out, with a guitar cable connected going into a 1/8' mono (one black line) adaptor to fit into the cound card. Ive tried Cubase, Soundforge and windows sound recorder, fiddled with the settings but cant seem to get it to recognise or "hear" the line in. Im sure the port is on the card working fine because when I unplug the jack the input sound meter jumps a little (as anything does really, like when you unplug your guitar when the amp is all the way up). Ive had the amp a year, and this is the first time ive tried using the line out. The speaker goes dead when the adaptor is on so I guess technically it should be ok... but thats the only place I can really see the problem existing... hopefully its still under warranty and ill take it down. Another problem I guess could be the adaptor.
