Hey guys,

I really need your ears on this one...I wanna make sure I'm not hearing imaginary things here.

I was working out some different mastering chains tonight and I discovered that upsampling my previous mixes from 48khz to 96khz was actually distroying my mixes. It completely ruined the integrity of the mix.

so I came up with another approach all together with another song called, "Without Remedy". If my ears are correct, this mix should come off cleaner, more open and tighter. I can't believe I didn't catch it before.

The song, "Burning June" uses the previous type of mastering.

If I can get some of your ears to confirm what I'm hearing, I'd be in your debt. Also, if you could let me know what your listening through (type of headphones and/or speakers) so I have an idea of how these are translating.

I have a very important meet next week and I'm aiming to impress.

thanks again guys!

if we can agree that this mastering chain works, then Im using it for the other songs.

Sorry Lee Without Remedy isn't loading/playing Burning June was fine but...

damn,

I wonder what it could be? It's playing swell over here. It could be that daily update they do.

I'll try to reupload it before getting some sleep. Jesus it's almost 6am over here!

Sounding pretty good to me....something about the vox though....they don't seem to have the brightness that maybe they could compared to the other sounds. A bit dull maybe.... Not bad, just seems they sit back a bit. I'm listening on some cheap monitors, and the music translates really well....very clean, and I like the distorted guitar tone alot for this tune. Just something about the vocals makes them a bit distant.

just make sure you remember that soundclick mp3's are at 128kbs. bitrates like that make everything sound like shit, FWIW.

The instruments in Without Remedy sound good, tight, clean and alot of hi fidelity. The volume is about 4db's lower than Burning June. The big difference I here between the two songs is in Burning June, the bottom is stronger and the guitar seems a bit more distorted. At an average of 88db the bass is shaking my body. Last time I experienced that was in front row seat watching Alien's space ships take off, err was the predator's? :)

There still seems to be a little top end issue on both, like the top's compressed but the gain is too low. It's almost makes you feel like it is missing.

There is still the issue with the vocals too with the phasy sound. Good luck with the meeting!

Oh ya, I'm listening on an old quad amp with 4 JBL stadium 3 way columns in a big room.

Big help on that guys :). Now I feel like I'm starting to get somewhere with this.

I can definitely say the vocals are the subject of debate and it's something I would of loved to have a nice mic with :D. I've been cutting vocals with an AKG C3000 and it just really makes due.

The preteenage "I hope santa gives me some good shit to use" in me would giggle at having a U87 in this situation.

But that's exactly what we're working towards. We have a pretty good potential manager looking at this right now.

I'm just afraid to disclose any details at this moment out of professional courtesy to him. I haven't met him yet, but I will be sure to talk about the events following.

For the time being, we've been told to prepare "10 songs for demo purposes, mixed as best you can get it, to be printed on about 20 CDs with a press package.l"

So in other words, I'm making note of those of you who participate in this listening test, in case I get the chance to throw in all my thank yous on a mass produced production. :).

Toob:

Spot on with the soundclick thing. The high end suffers *alot* with thier compression. Almost to the point to where things like cymbals, synths and guitars might sound brittle, but ends up being this shitty MP3 high roll off thing. If I would of been smarter, I could of used overhead mics that got more body than sizzle.

But of course, I went ahead and used the Sizzle "way too fast response for MP3" mic. Sounds great as a regular wave file.
