hello all
so im upgrading my soundcard, from a soundblaster live! to a whole new generation... most likely a delta 1010lt.
but in order to make this jump, i need some much needed help from my buddies here.
i need to know exactly what i need to buy to set the whole thing up and have it working as its intended. since i dont live in the U.S. or europe, where prices are good, i have to buy all i need in one go while im in new york next month. in sao paulo brazil, even 1/4 cables are ridiculously overpriced.
so here we go with a few questions:
setup i currently have to make it work:
AMD 64 x2 (duo core or whatever) athlon processor
2gb ram
140gb free hardrive space
(brand new Dell computer, its nice)
alesis studio24 mixer ('recording console w/ inline monitor')
http://www.alesis.com/products/studio24/
adobe audition 2.0
so, to make this jammy work in the following manner:
micing up my amp --> running cable into channel 1 1/4 or xlr input of mixer --> out from channel
1 (is it a 1/8??) --> one of the analog ins of the 1001lt (is it also 1/8 mono jack? or is it 1/4?)
and this should record perfectly into my audition sequencer right?
now, what kind of cable would i need to OUT from my mixer to IN to my 1010lt? an 1/8?
i plugged in an 1/8 cable into the mixer and it seemed to fit haha
do i have to run it out from the channel of the mixer or is it better to run it out from like a MAIN OUT?
at first, i will be recording one track at a time, so i can use a main out i guess.
but i am buying this sound card to have the option of one day recording some drums, maybe a kick, hh and snare, since
i cant fit more than that in my room.
and if i do decide to record drums, i will need what, 4 mics right: kick, hh, snare and an overhead...
the delta will take that in no problem right? since i see it has 6 ins (1/4? 1/8?)
the main reason im using my mixer is because of its preamps.
i never use it to record... i find no need to mix with it. i prefer to do all that in the sequencer.
and since im currently using the sb live, it has its built in preamps, so no need for the mixer.
and where do i connect my speakers in the mixer?
i have these: http://www.amazon.com/ProMedia-4-1-Certified-Computer-5-Speaker/dp/B000062VUP
its got standard two 1/8 jacks pink and green that go to my soundcard in the back.
and lastly: is the delta fine to play mp3's, internet audio, all that normal stuff? (apart from computer games,
which i never play).
ok everyone.
i apologize if this is insanely long and boring, but i really need to know all these answers before i commit.
thanks a lot
