Soo..

It's That Time.. and i come to you guys for help... recently i have been doing alot of Ska band recording... if any of you have worked with a ska band, you know how many tracks it really takes...

Drums, Bass, Guitar, Guitar, 2-4 Horns, 2-4 Vocals Tracks...

My 8 track console just aint cutting it anymore..

I need something new... under the $1000 renge would be cool..

I've been working with the Boss BR-864.. i reall like this console... i would like to stay outta the computer stuff... i like the seperate console...

Things I'd Like..

~Phantom Power
~4 XLR IN's
~Atleast 12 Tracks...

should i break down and get a interface for my computer.. i have a seperate one just sitting around that could be used... this will allow for many many tracks wont it...

I have a 32 channel mixer.. Behringer SL series... blah... haha
no outboard gear...

So suggestions.. comparesons, arugments... whatever..

Thanks,
Ethan

IMHO go the computer route. Buy two used firepods and you have sixteen channels for under 1,000 if you find halfway decent deals.

yeah I'm playing with an old pc, 2nd recording station.
the pc records and is great until you want plug-ins and more tracks then its ...memory time$$$....but then the memory upgrade is close to a new system....but then you still need a good audio card...and interface. well that means maybe new PC for firewire and or Usb??? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

p.s. there's no sliders if you like to play Darth Faders....
enjoying the force of the faders...unless >... you buy a more expensive pc interface unit with faders.

so a standalone is alright. a pc seems to be the most bag-for-the-buck...

I have the 2488, $999 new. and am playing with a old pc setup...I spend more time shopping than recording the past few weeks.

Maybe one path is to just make upgrading your gear the Hobby!! haHaHahaa

You might want to take a couple Bucks and Upgrade your CPU/Motherboard on your PC so you can record More Tracks with plugins.....

If you do the upgreade yourself you can get a Fast CPU with a Motherboard for about $200 that should let you record Many Many tracks with Many Plugins without skipping a beat....

Cheers

can't the computer allow for unlimited tracks, (up to memorys allowance) simotaneously i only need 4.. so one unit would be pleanty...

oh gotcha, i thought you needed that many at once. Well then you could get something like the Delta 44 soundcard. But most people like firewire's now i guess.

Only 4 channels for recording a ska band? I count 24 or so....

Even if you only record the main tracks first (guitars, bass, and Drums) you'd still need around sixteen.

if you're recording ska you need a spit-rug... or linoleum floors...
