i'm overhauling my pc
right now i think i'm running
AMD Dual Processors MP 1600
with 512mb

i'm looking into one of those mobo combos so i can just remove one mobo and replace with the other and keep it moving.

i want to get Asus mobo with P4 and 1gb

i'm confused when it comes to chipset and socket and all this stuff

what's the difference btwn 478 and 775- better yet does it matter when building a DAW

Not quite sure what you're getting at with this post but, if you're in the market for an Asus to support P4, I've had excellent results with the P4C800 Deluxe. If you get this board, you don't need to worry about chipsets...just get your ram and processor, cpu fan and you're set.

If you go for a dual processor make sure your recording program can make use of it. Other wise you will see no performace difference as oposed to a single processor.

Do you need a new PC? Dual MP 1600s is no slouch. You could bump your RAM up - 512MB is kinda low by today's standards.

I'd say wait - both AMD and Intel have got dual-core processors slated to be released in the next few months or so. PCI-E is gaining momentum, and 64-bit Windows is on its way as well. It kinda seems like we're on the cusp of some next-gen stuff getting released, so holding off any semi-major tech purchases would seem prudent.

my pc's been unstable for a minute, it doesn't respect the presence of the 3rd HHD, and freezes on me like crazy, all kind of isht
thanks Elevate wish i knew about that ,anyway i ordered a ASus P4c 800 e deluxe w/ 3ghz and 1gb of ram
i'm gonna put the other mobo in another case thus upgrade my other computer.

I'll take the "old" mobo and processers off your hands if you want......I love AMD and I'm building a new linux machine.

Both...initially I used what came with the board...about a year later, I updated the bios from their website...they also have a bunch of updated utilities. It's a very easy board to work with.

finally got it
i couldnt get it work because one of the power supply connector wasn't plugged in
