Hey guys-
I'm brand new here and could use a little advice. i have a Roland Vs-880 that I bought new way back in 1998 (god, i payed like 2 grand for this thing back then) and it has done the basics for me for many many years now but I am about done with it. I want to go the workstation route again but not sure what to upgrade to. originally was thinking 16 tracks but when i saw all the great used gear available I am now thinkgin minimum 24 but preferably 32. A few I am looking at are:
Roland VS 2480 (these seem a little pricey though)
korg D3200 (the 80G version)
Tascam 2488 neo

The tascam seems to be the best deal right now (new or used) but i wonder if its too much of a deal, i.e. not that nice. Can someone give me some input?
Thanks

Or you could just suck it up and get a good computer and an interface and have unlimited tracks, infinite storage potential and access to any software you could want. Just sayin'

+1 go computer

So with the computer option the issue I have found is the cost of an interface that will let me record 8+ tracks at a time is quite expensive. Plus the learning curve of going to a whole new format.....any suggestions?

Time to take the plunch!
Computer based DAW is the future, so you might as well dive in. Maybe the best thing is to tell us what you want to do and we can make recommendations.

I mostly use my current setup for song idea demos. Any real album I would go to someone elses studio for. That being said, i wouldnt mind being able to make better quality at home. The biggest thing i want is the ability to record at least 8 tracks at once, a better editing layout, and good mastering (my current setup has no mastering option at all). I dont know if my current computer is up to the task (dell....i think 2-3gig processor and ~300g harddrive) and an interface with enough inputs seems like it will be pricey. Help!

This Can be had for less than $500. It's the digital age so I'll assume like most interweb junkies you will always have some kind of computer. If yours doesn't have firewire throw a few bucks in for a firewire card and you're good.
