"Upgrading" from Delta 1010 to MOTU 896 (non-hd) + more!

*edit: OK this is a goddamn boring thread, so I'm gonna spice it up! What's the best, most useful, most quality-increasing piece of equipment you've ever bought?

Or, if you'd rather answer my original question, that'd be ok too :):

I'm currently using a Delta 1010 with a Yamaha MG16/4 mixer (for preamps & minimal routing). I figure I could probably get around $250-300 for the m-audio, and around $180-225 for the mixer, and I found a guy selling the MOTU 896 for $450. Thus, I would (kind of) be getting an upgrade for free, plus I'd have a shorter signal chain so one would assume I would end up with slightly higher quality audio capture, I think?

Let me know if I'm doing something stupid here :p

I have a couple 1010lts I haven't been using much primarily because I've been usiing Vista and there are no drivers available. I plan on using this machine to mix down to a CDrecorder so I get some use out of it.
I also have a Motu 828MKII FW which I have been using with Vista machine at about twice the power of the 1010 machine.
After a week or two of getting rid of the gremlins in the Vista machine I must say that the 828 has a much broader sound than the 1010s. It sounds much more live kinda like the sound you get when using all analog and reel to reel.
It seems kinda strange after using the 1010 for so long. But I like it alot, that sounds like a great deal on a 896. Just make sure you have a TI FW card the Motu's are picky on PC's.
