Hey all...

I am currently working with the ProjectMixI/O. I want to upgrade my preamps...is the octane an upgrade from the p/m micpres? I'm not really that technically knowledgeable so I don't know how to read the spec chart! :( ...if someone could help me I would really appreciate it!

thanks,

James

As far as the preamp specs are concerned, they look quite similar. The ProjectMix I/O has more features than the Octane (although the Octane has an M/S encoder built into it). If you've already got a ProjectMix I/O, then I think there is no reason to buy an Octane just as a preamp "upgrade". With that said, I own an Octane, and I love it. It's got a TON of headroom, which is really important when using it for mic'ing a drum kit.

doesnt the PM i/o have ADAT?

isnt the octane ADAT?

why not just have 16 inputs.. therefore not 'replacing' your PM i/o pres.. just adding to em. they're probably the same friggin pre's...

Yes, it does have the ADAT lightpipe out, as well as firewire and one other digital output, along with analog outputs. The Octane has a lightpipe out, as well as analog outs.

So, if you wanted eight more preamps, the Octane would be worth considering. I am also assuming that the pre's are the same in both units, so I wouldn't think of an Octane as an upgrade; I'd think of it as a way to add more pre's to the PM I/O.
