Hey there all...
I have been away for a while but Im back with a few questions.
First off...I use PTLE with a digi-001.
My computer is a 1.2 gig athalon
256kb of ram or memory
30 gig hard drive
Win Me
I have a few songs that are 12-14 tracks...each with
compression
4 band eq
and a few with reverb
the thing is that my computer is really getting bogged down.

I was wondering if I increased my memory to 512kb from 256kb would that help?

What functions of pro tools does increasing the system memory help?

Any help on this subject would help...Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure effects processing and such really relies on the cpu and the amount of tracks more on hard drive speed than on memory. But memory not being too expensive, and seeing myself the wonders more can do to overall performance, I think the question is, can more hurt?

256kb ? 512kb ? You mean MB ?! :D Yess, memory is something you can never get enough. Go for more at any chance. Although processor also important factor when you load alot of plug ins fx.

No, buying excess memory that will not be used is a waste of money. By the time you might need the memory it'll either be cheaper or you'll upgrade and it will not be compatible.

On Windows ME 256 should be plenty for recording. Memory usage is not your problem.

Proper configuration of your software, soundcard drivers, and overall system will be the difference between 14 tracks and 24 tracks. This requires a great deal of experimentation. Start with your buffer settings both in your soundcard's control panel and your software.
