Woo Hoo! Just got in the Music XPC C2 to talk to Digi002. Formatting complete, plug ins loaded, firmware upgraded to bleeding edge. Dual hard drives, 3 gig pentium IV, only one silence fan, units talking to each other. Amplitube, Reason,T-rack all functional. Aside from the annoyance of pulling the tracks for my first album off of a Roland VS1824CD into Pro Tools, this is my first real experience with computer based recording. Now the Roland becomes a portable hard drive for remote recording. The plan- for remote stereo recording- 2 matched KM184's > Avalon AD2022 > Digi002 (for A-D conversion > VS1824 by S/PDIF, bypassing the Roland's pres and A-D conversion. Then later, back to the 002 into Pro Tools for postproduction, all in 24 bit.
In the studio- Various mics > Avalon and Joemeek twinQ for four strong channels. For 4 more auxiliary tracks (drums), the Focusrite pres in the 002 > into the computer from hell in Pro Tools.
Well, what's the point? 2 things. One is, there may never be an end, but there are places where you have to stop and catch your breath and save up some more money, and this is one of those. It may not be a perfect rig, but I can now do justice to any source that can fit into my little room, and I can do some really good remote recording, as well. I finally have the right guitars, and the whole signal chain is just short of the top of the line. Secondly, I think we have just crossed that vague line in the sand between kickass project studio and fly-by-night pro. Thanks to everyone on this board who has helped me develop the knowledge base to put Bardwire Productions together. Yo Fmmahogany rush- come on up to Framingham and lay down some tracks! It's my turn to pay for the beer!-Richie

Congrats!!!!

Richie,

Sounds like you are finally getting where you want to be as you mentioned to me about 6 months ago. Good for you. Hell, maybe I may have to come up to framingham and throw some tracks down. Ya know the "Pro recording" I cant seem to get myself. Thanks for all YOUR help Richie

Tony

Awesome.

That's a killer setup. You've got the kit there to give the 'real' studios a run for their money

Anytime, Stoctony! and for cut rates. I'll buy dinner.-Richie

very nice indeed.

*now go and buy better converters (just kidding, just kidding)* :p

Guhlenn

Well, if I do, Guhlenn, can I sleep on your couch? 'Cause I'm going to be bankrupt, which will make it hard to pay for a divorce lawyer! (also just kidding)-Richie

If I had a couch, you could ... LOL

But I'm willing to share my card-board box with ya!

ps. I wish I had your setup!

Well what the hell? You're in Nederland, so if you can talk the nice officials into giving me a resident visa, I can buy a license and play guitar in the Leidespleine (?sp). I'll use my newfound guilders to buy some hash, and then I won't care that I'm broke and divorced. God, I love your country!-Richie

well your right about the hash thing (it's weed that is the best here in the nederlands. But it's tends to become a habit... LOL. )

You as american can get a visa, but DUDE, GUILDERS??? GUILDERS??? Ever heard about a thing called the euro? LMAO!!!

prices for hasj (mind the j) did went up ridiculously when euro came... Most potheads didn't even figure it out since the number was the same LOLOLOL

I just smoke alot and pretend that my stereo is actually a recording system. Works for me!

The cardboard box is a villa when you are really high... The netherlands is a really nice country when you are really high.

Heck, behringer makes nice mixers when you are REALLY REALLY REALLY high :D
