I`ve been searching through some old post/threads on here, and ran across some talk on some very inexpensive mics, it was said they were pretty good and fairly close in sound quality as compared to actual SM57`s..,
anyway, the thread/post about them is a couple years old, so I`m hoping to get some new feedback on them by someone who has used them a bit more/recently etc..

FWIW...I`m not working on building a professional studio..LOL..but rather just looking to build up a decent stash of mics to get the job done, if/when i decide to do a lil`recording..

here`s the mic I`m talking about..thanks..
any thoughts/opinnions would be greatly apreciated..

Your buying mic's so you have them around in case you ever decide to record something?

If that is the case you would be better off checking the pawn shops and craigs list and ebay and wait for a good deal on a real SM57

Guitar Center has used SM57s for $50 online. You would probably be better off with one of those. I'm pretty sure Guitar Center verifies their 57s to be authentic, too.

I own three of them. I bought them a long time ago for like 30 bucks or something. They don't sound like sm57s to me they have bad mids bad transient response higher crappier sounding output (no not like a beta57) Buy a real sm57 its a hundred bucks honestly how much cheaper can you ask? Its a mic that you won't ever grow out of and you can resell it later if you decide to get away from recording or whatever.

thanks for the reply`s...of course I`m going to do some recording, not sure why I wrote what I did in my openning post...just kidding around I guess..

I`ve owned a few SHURE mics over the years, and defiantly liked them, but years ago I sold off alot of my stuff, sadly including my SHURE mics...

Anyway, I usually don`t get tempted to buy knock offs, especially one`s that are this rediculessly cheap..but just for the heck of it, after seeing these mentioned on this forum, I decided to read a few reviews..all of which were in favor of the mics...so I then did some more internet searching, and ran across alot more reviews, and pretty soon had read probley about 40 reviews, all of which were positive..which defiantly suprized me...
But, I do take reviews with a grain of salt, cause ya just never know who`s writing them, could be a bunch of 14 year old kids, or maybe even fake one`s put up by the company, or sales people in order to try and push um..LOL, hence me asking about them here...

I don't have all of my gear with me but after reading this i went and dug through some old drawers and found one of them if you would like I can record some samples along with some comparisons along side a real sm57 so you can hear the differences?

That`d be GREAT!!!!!
thanks!!!

Here goes it starts out like this..sm57 on old untuned snare then goes to es57 on the snare..next its sm57 on clean guitar doodle then es57 on clean guitar doodled followed by dirty riff on sm57 followed by dirty riff on es57. Still a good mic for 30 bucks but its definately no replacement for a sm57.

Don't have alot of stuff to play with here I just plugged my mics into a tascam us 1800 and hit record completely dry the es57 has a slight bit more gain to it than the sm57 I didn't change anything same placement and same channel. Also the es57 has alot of handling noise the sm57 has next to none.

Sounds like someone never unsnapped their snare before recording some acoustic ;)

Man, I don't wish to be 'that guy', but the mic is only as important as what is given to it. The thing that really makes a mic sound good, is the performance. Yes, some microphones will give better clarity to a performance, but they cannot create a good sounding performance. A crap mic on a great artist, will give an end result of a good performance. A perfect mic on a crappy performer, will sound like poop. Any piece of crap mic will sound better with a good preamp. Good meaning, more than you would pay to get your teeth cleaned.

A 57 could be used exclusively to record a whole album with pro quality. Not that anyone would limit themselves to it intentionally, but it is possible.

It comes down to the performance, the performers abilities to make heir instrument sound good, and the song to begin with. Hell, listen to Bohemian Rhapsody. Most of the tracks sound like utter crap. The performance is what makes it work.

True, but even though the end result is a good performance, it is an end performance that could have sounded better had it been recorded on a better mic. Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you that a good performance is KEY. However, I do also believe your music will sound only as good as your weakest link. If you have prestigious gear and a prestigious artist and record with a $20 radioshack mic, you will suffer sound quality.

Believe me, we are on the same page. It just seems to me that most people new to recording, think that the mic is responsible for achieving greatness. It is the first link of the recording chain regarding gear. It is not however the most important, nor the beginning of getting good tone. The source is. I probably stated it wrong, but the key to a good recording IMO, is having something worthy of recording. I know, I sound redundant, but this is the biggest oversight that I see most with those wishing to find the 'secret' to recording.

A better mic and preamp will definitely make an improvement on quality. These will however only improve on what is given them.

Rant over. I had a day discussing this with a guitar player whom could not understand why I could not get a great tone from his Crate amp.

THANKS!!!...and sorry for the delayed responce..I just now seen there were new post in this thread....

that said...although I could tell a difference, it was`nt as much as I was expecting....I`m not real thrilled with the additional handling noise...but other then that, to my VERY untrained ears..I did`nt think it sounded half bad compared to a real SM57...
