Slowing becoming un-noob.
So a while back I made a thread on how my SCXD was having a rough time.
Here's the info on that if you don't know already..
https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=271560

So I ordered new power tubes thinking it was them. They arrived today, and of course they didn't work. Pretty much made me pissed that I was going to have to ship it off to fender...
So then I was like "oh hey, there are those tubes from the organ..."
Someone on another forum (this guy who has heavily modded his SCXD and knows alot about them) said that he suspected the preamp tube (this is after I ordered the power tubes).
So I tried it out, and voila. Works perfect. And as far as the new preamp tube goes...I put in this old Sylvania tube, which someone told me was pretty rare/good. And to me it sounds a little better, not much, but a little more crisp. In a good way. So if you're wondering if there was a difference, I think there was. I also think it was a little less "gainy" as in I had to turn the gain up just smidge to get it where I like it.

Anyways. there it is. Hopefully this'll help someone else in the future.
I'm pretty damn happy I don't have to send it in to fender, that would've sucked.

How did you know the valves in the organ were the same as the ones in the SC?

The one in the SCXD said 12AX7A on it. And the one from the organ also had the same exact thing.
Should I not? I think someone said it'd be perfectly alright (in the organ tube thread I made).

Glad it worked out! But now you do have a new set of power tubes ;) tell us how they sound vs. the old ones?

Just for clarification: SCXD doesn't have any preamp tubes (solid-state preamp), but it does have a 12ax7 (i think half of it is used for a gain stage, the other half as phase inverter). but that doesn't change anything you've reported - you're back to enjoying your SCXD.

I tried out the new power tubes. Keep in mind they are the same kind...Fender Groove Tubes. So I mean. I didn't hear much of a difference, I wasn't really listening for it either. I just realized that my old power tubes were fine, so I put those back in to save the new ones for when these current ones really do blow out. Sorry I can't help.

Yeah man, tube was bad. It's good that you figured it out before the thing caught fire  jk jk and not that a bad tube would cause it to catch fire. You should have had the tube tested with a tube tester and compared it to the stock 12ax7 before stickin' it in there. I suspect you would've seen some big differences. Well you live and you learn! Glad to hear that your tube amp is ok!

I don't have a tube tester handy...But otherwise I totally would've.
