Unusual to ask here... car audio...

Ok this may seem kind of wierd to ask in a home recording forum, but those who have dealt with making speaker systems can help me apply it in my car

I need to know if i should look out for special 'in-car' amplifiers, or if i should just buy a power inverter for my car so that i can run normal audio equipement in my car.

I am thinking of running 2 x 12" cabs in the back, directing fowards, mounted beside them will be tweeters. Then i may install some accurate speakers by the front doors. Will i need a crossover?

Tell me what you think of my idea's, any past experiece with car stereo's ect,

A power inverter is silly.... car audio technology has come so far some of the specs parallel top quality home theatre stuff.

I did this but I didn't convert. I had a small kenwood 80 watt amp.

Used some Yamaha 6" 50 watters in a Ford F150.

I listen to death/black metal though. I would think if you used 2-12's for say bassy shit it would sound like poo. House speakers need space if I'm not mistaken. So the shit would just bouce around like crazy.

All I can say is try it out. To each his own. Car audio isn't really that expensive. But I'm guessing you have the 2-12's already. Try putting them in different spots in the car too. I would get some kind of cross-over for the cabs so you can fade some sets.

Inverter?!

NOT!...the efficiency alone is enough to drive you away from that.

Speakers are speakers...some better, some worse in construction, freq response an efficiency. Enclosure design makes or breaks them when placed in certain locations.

If you're looking to build a mobile system...get mobile gear...think installation and application. Condition of the vehicle comes into play as well...a tight car nets big SPL and road/environmental isolation...a leaky/drafty car won't. Speaker placement, power supply (batteries and alternator) a serious consideration with big systems.

I would suggest you see an area pro...let him try to sell you something and get an edjumaction.
