Should i unplug my interface when im not using it? I use the tascam us 200( cant recommend it enough by the way!!!) does unplugging it extend its life somehow?

I wouldn't think so. Also, you disable your internal sound card and use the Tascam as a sound card. So, to unplug and disable sound cards every time is a pain. That's why I believe it is preferable to have a computer just for recording, and leave it set up that way.

Thanks. Well i woke up this morning and my awesome tascam died... Whining when i use phantom power and it sounds horrible. Yesterday was clean. I have my comp set up just for recording. Nothing on it but software and i disabled all internet, firewall and all that stuff

It probably makes a ton of heat, and by leaving it on, the heat probably took its toll on it.

What kind of mic are you using phantom power with when it makes the whining noise?

Does the mic work with the US-200 when you turn phantom power off?
