I contacted the buyer, but could only do so once feedback had been given to the seller. In the past we could see the IDs of bidders, but ebay changed that, so now we can't warn someone they are being ripped off before they complete the transaction.
Sure enough the buyer responded, thanked me for the info, and confirmed that indeed the tape was sticky and gummed up his machine. I wish we could save everyone from this sort of crap, but we can't.
I invited the buyer to check out this forum so at least he'll be forewarned the next time.
