Free album download: "Unfit for Consumption"

Just released my third collection ...

I'm working on the album art ... but I thought I'd distribute this one no charge to Home Rec folks.

Unfit for Consumption

Contrary to its title, it's ready ... so please help yourselves to the download.

Just right click the link and select "Save Target As ..." (in Windows ... Mac users are on their own, but I'm certain there's similar function) ... and select where you want to save the file. The file is roughly 55mb in size, so 56k downloaders beware ...

Here's the track listing:

  • 1) Consumption
    2) Without Radio
    3) Vanltyne
    4) Evening Star
    5) A Song for Holly
    6) Black Magic
    7) Colors of the Day
    8) Deeper as it Goes
    9) The American Dream Trilogy
    10) Sleep Tight

The file is a 160 kbps MP3 ... and feel free to burn the image to CD or load to your MP3 player. Sharing with others is encouraged ... so also feel free to pass the above link along to anyone whom you think might enjoy the collection.

I haven't got any album art done, but I know conceptually what I'm going to do ... in the meantime ... I hope folks enjoy the release. I'll probably have the album art assembled in the next week or two on my website for those that wish to follow up.

Special thanks to all who contributed their valued input to my various threads as I prepared for the release!

Good job getting an album out. Its always good to see people finishing projects and getting them into an album.

Perhaps you could zip all the tracks into a single file, rather than having a single massive mp3 file?

Just listening now. I like what I hear.

I seem to recall you having us critique Consumption a few months back. It was good, as I recall.

I'll have to check this out when my AV scan isn't running.

Thanks Jen! Hope you like!

Waffleness: The way I put this together was track by track in Sonar, and then I added/subtracted RMS needs per song per track so that the levels moved consistently from song to song ... and then I mixed the whole project down into one massive wav file ...

... which I then converted into the mp3 presented here ... roughly 500mb down to 55 ...

What I was interested in exploring was whether I could set "song markers" to move from one tune to the other ... sort of like what a CD does: Presents the project BOTH as a whole and individually.

When one produces an album project, the selection of song order and movement, spacing and flow all become part of the art ... if you will ... which is fully lost if all that's done is present individual song files.

Imagine the back side of "The Beatles Abbey Road cut up into individual song files ... and you'll get the sense of what I mean ... and the end of this work has similar flow from song to song ... as you might now know.

The individual songs in a zip file is a good idea ... but the concept of the "whole" would be lost ... so I'm trying to figure out a way to be able to jump to and from and even isolate individual songs w/o losing function of the "conceptual project".

If that makes any sense ...

:D

Thanks for sharing it all with us, Kev! :)
Listening to Consumption right now, totally cool song. Very well-played, arranged and sung. No nits about the recording from me. :):)

Glad you dl'd it Joe!

I'm still trying to work on figuring out a format that separate the tracks whilst maintaining album flow ... akin to the way a CD works.

I want folks to be able to click on the file container and get:

- Album art on their player (if supported)
- Album "flow" ... so individual songs flow uninterrupted from one to the next
- Ability to jump from song to song and isolate individual tracks for play or offload to a mobile device

I'd also like the file sizes to remain reasonably small -- 55mb is a good size for online download transfer ... and if there's a way to include lyrics for each song, that too.

Unfortunately, I've not yet figured out how to make that all work right yet.

I must say, I am impressed with my computer being able to handle an MP3 this big.

I'm on Consumption so far; sounds good.

I like the art. Though you probably want to do something about the level of detail on the "head" of the guy; it looks pretty pixelated.

I've strange friends w/ wonderful talents, bud ...

I came up with a graphic concept and asked them to please prevent me from embarrassing myself ...

... and they totally agreed to think about it!!!

I don't know if they are going to correct my dabbling w/ the graphic ... or whether they're going to complete do something different.

I had to ask my son how to layer stuff on photoshop ... I'm so totally okay w/ audio ... so totally clueless otherwise.

I found a program that allowed me to insert split points into the large MP3 file and then isolate and split each track.

I then setup a playlist in WMP and listened back to the connect points between the songs ... and because the split points were so thin, the flow from song to song was very close as I'd intended for the album flow.

So ... as suggested above, I uploaded a zip file with the songs all split out into separate files instead of one long large MP3.

Played sequentially, it maintains album flow while allowing movement between tracks.

All you need to do is click the link below, save the zip file ... and then unzip it to your music folder.
