What a wonderful sound. What a mix of styles and emotions. Just great. There's a little ceiling fan thing happening way down low at 2:39, what the hell is that? Oh, its the sax deteriorating into silence- very tasty. I've got it cranked up in my headphones and I'm about to crap my pants it's so nice. I love the Billy Joelish sax lines (I don't usually go for sax sweeteners but this is great). That sinister bass is really appealing (I'm running out of explitives), I love the sinister juxtaposed with the sweet. Just like obsession/love.

I haven't read all the previous posts, not wanting to color my response, but what are you using to record and mix? Just tell me to read the other responses if you've already explained.

F'ing great- goes into my keeper folder. I'm going to play this for my girlfriend and tell her I wrote it for her!!!! jk

Jon

Sorry for sounding like Paula Abdul on Pop Idol at times.

Wow. Not what I was expecting, and very very good.

It kind of reminds me of Morphine, what with the low vocal and the sax.

Good bits (apart from the whole thing):

Great voice. The low bit, especially - very impressive. And you've done a great job mixing it so clearly - it can't have been easy.

It sounds like it should be too quiet, but somehow isn't. If that makes sense.

Nice guitar sound. How did you do that cool stereo split in the intro? That sounds impossible to me!

Great, great sax playing. And a beautiful tone. Wow.

Nitpicks:

I love the bass playing, but I think the bass is taking up just a wee bit too much in the way of frequencies. Maybe roll off a tiny bit at the low end, or even the low mids, just to separate it out a bit?

Also, it may be a style choice, but I'd like to hear just a tiny bit more definition at the start of notes. If you've compressed the bass, maybe increase the attack setting just a wee bit?

But wow. You've made a beautiful piece of music.

Straight into the keepers folder.

Cheers

AB

......nice of you guys to respond to this again......

Muzeman Hey Muze... very nice words man...... Im glad that you like it. thanks

dtb:D , I was serious about that banjo pickin...... I'll let you know when ive got something.

jjtcorsair:D :D thanks jjt, this is all recorded on a tascam 788..... its the "tryin ta keep it clean w/ no green" approach:D

alibish thanks for the listen man.... the acoustic is recorded w/ an nt1000, and direct via piezo. ....panned 20/20 There was alot of time involved eqing this song because the bass, acc guits, and low vocals shared alot of the same space. You might be right about a little roll-off there. I'll take another look at the bass eq... .....thanks again

Good stuff. Always good to see collaboration. nothing more to say other than excellent.

I was playing some of the good stuff around here for my wife.
I figured while I was at it,I'd give this fine piece of music a bump!:D

This is excellent... Where is the booking agent .. folks?

Lt. bob is great too!

raise the flag, and I'll salute it.. truly one of the greatest collaborations...

Well it's about time...

...for this wonderful piece to come back into heavy rotation.

How nice to have G.'s old song pop back up. He deserves it as this is a fine tune. I was lucky to get to play on it. I guess you're a veteran of the board when you have old retired threads pop back into life again. G., you old geezer you! :p

don't know how I missed this..guess I thought i had already listened and replied to this:( , sorry. I'm trying really hard not to be an ass kisser in this clinic really:D , it don't work though when i hear something like this.

I thought that backing vocal made the song, as much as anything else. It was spot on. Damn, this is one of the best I've heard in here...and there have been many. L.T. Bob did a helluva job on this too. This is great man.

Ya I haven't heard this one in a while. Love it!

You should re-approach this, exercising a modicum of self restraint, with the Triton. It's fantastic song!!!
