probalby is, but i'll ask anyway. is the peavey cel-2 compresssor anywhere even near good? I like the features, and was just wondering.

Is any peavey gear besides the vmp-2 any good?

Not familiar with a CEL-2, do you mean the VC/L-2 ? If so, it's a very well built tube/optical compressor using an electroluminescent panel. It's along the same lines as an LA2A (no, I don't think it's a clone) so if you like that style of compression it's a good buy. One caveat : it is NOT a stereo unit, but a discreet 2 channel, so I wouldn't use it on the LR buss.

The only PEAVY gear I own is 2 bass reflex 18" woofer cabs, 1 with the original Black Widow woofer still intact.

well i dont' play guitar. i'm thinking of learning. can you get an okay electric for 150 bucks? like a fender or something? ...a little off the subject, sorry

$150?
Over here in Britain you can get a Squier Affinity for about £120. Dont know what that is in dollars, but the affinitys are alright for learning on. I've got a Tele affinity that I use for basic guide tracks, etc. Not much good for really good recording, although it's more to do with the amp then. I always use Marshall, Crate or Mesa.

you can get a good cheap guitar at Music-yo.com They also give out $10 dollars off gift certifacites everyone once in a while.

Check out the Kramer, Pacer, and Striker.

One more to consider, the Peavey version of a Telecaster, I am not what you could call a Peavey fan but I have heard a lot of good comments on this one. Any comments out there?

The CEL-2 IS a piece 'o crap!

So this is a "piece 'o crap" in comparison to what?

Have you actually used the unit?

I just purchased one at a extremely good price and I compared it to the other compressors that I have. It is far from what I would call a piece o crap. It works fine, does not cause coloration of the sound, and has robust features. Sonically and operationally it hangs in there with the other compressors that I have. Depending on the desired effect this unit may be the correct choice.

Sorry I have to do this!!

Yes I know this is an ancient post. Having just purchased this compressor I wanted to see other user reviews. So I did a search for it on this site. Normally I would just read the review and move on. But in this case the information that I found was 180 degrees opposite what I have found using it. Additionally how the review was given appeared as a biased uninformed review. There was no back up explaining why he thought it was a piece o crap. It was just stated matter of factly that it was.

Because of this I wanted to set this straight if another user is questioning the purchase of this compressor.

I should clarify that my unit is the CEL2a, not the CEL2. There are slight control changes. Not sure if there are any significant upgrades.
