Hi Guys,

I am a singer and newly purchased Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 Home Studio. I am installed Reaper DAW software.Motive is to sing with karaoke.

I am able to record my vocal sometimes and sometimes its just the Karaoke id getting played when I am exporting the files.
I am confused with Routing, input/output and monitoring etc.

Please can you guide me?

Thanks,
Rinnie

Hi Rinita,
I don't know Reaper very well but it any software you'll want to have your backing music and your new vocal track on two separate tracks.

The vocal track should start blank and have its input set to your 2i2 channel one (where the mic is plugged in).
You'll record arm that track and record your new vocal to it.

The other track, the backing, just plays back for your reference. You import your WAV or mp3 at the start and then just leave it alone.

When it comes time for bouncing, both tracks should get mixed together unless you have one of them in solo or something.

If you don't want to hear your own voice through the headphones whilst recording (and do use headphones), then you can mute the vocal track.
It will still record and, once you're done, you can just unmute it to listen back.

Does that help?
If not, give us some specifics on where you're going wrong. :)
