Ultimate upgrage from a MOTU 2408 MK II ?

I got a buddy that is interested in mine.

I instantly think UPGRADE.

Any ideas?

I am thinking at most $500 more than the original cost of the MOTU.

I use the TDIF inputs and Analog ins/outs as well, so would like the same

diversity in INS/OUTS.

I record my full band at once which is about 20 ins at most.

Rme

RME Fireface 800 looks nice, and is about $600 more.

Looks like no TDIF:( ..MIC inputs(this would cause problems?),& claims 56 ins.

When I look at the pictures, it looks like there is no way it can have 56ins.

any other ideas with a soundcard with TDIF or ADAT?
 
Sorry, no ideas. I run a 2408 mkII along with my HD24 (ADAT gozintas/gozoutas) and I can't think of anything that would drop into the system except maybe a mkIII.

56 are both ins and outs together.

I don't think there are too many 1 unit solutions. Most of the stuff that is an upgrade are 8 channel units that get stacked together. The higher end stuff is modular so you can pick and choose how much of what you want instead of trying to slam everything under the son into 1 rackspace.

are the converters on the MKIII any better/different?

I will not be recording in anything other than 24bit/44.1

One upgrade you can make to your existing MOTU would be a Lucid GenX6. I know it improved the analog side of mine.

Sounds like this Lucid is an expansion (with converters) card that would work in tandom with the MK II ?

I am really satisfied how the DM preamps go TDIF into the motu and that's it.
Very clean and organized.
 
That's a great idea, I wish I would have thought of that.
