Some of you may be aware that I am a professor at famous Ivy League CyFair college (actually a community college near Houston). We have been developing an Ultra Large Diaphram Condenser Microphone. It features a 24" gold sputtered diaphram and pure class A transformerless design. We are having a little trouble with wind noise, but we are confident it will be the last word in mic design. The metal work is done in China, but the "basket" is hand fit here at the lab.

I've been working on a similar project. I too have found a high sensitivity to noise sources such as you've described. I've been able to mitigate some of these problems by employing a newly designed microphone pre-amp. It features a better design of the phantom power circuit which uses a custom wound 220VAC 2:1 step up torroidal transformer which produces a regulated 35 amp/ 441.5 VAC sawtooth wave output. On the down side, the mic cable needs to be of a proprietary design utilizing 0 gauge solid conductor cabling. The strain releif for the mixer connection is our biggest problem at this point in the project.
