BTW, the UAD1 card fuc#ing rocks!

The only "problem" is now I want 2 of them..

I bought it after I started working at a pretty nice studio (Otari Concept console, Mackie HDR, VoxBox, Manley and Drawmer compressors, DBX 166's, Drawmer gates...) and I actually prefer mixing in Cubase SX 2.0 with my UAD1 over the studio!

Tell me more. I've been interested in a couple of these. Can you use them like a directX plug?

I bought one a month or so ago also, and I think it is an awesome card too !

I use them as VST plug's but you can use it as Directx. I think it gives you an option when you are installing.

Yah ive been using mine for almost a year now. My only regret is that i havnt boughten a second one.

A second one with a Powercore Element would be awesome.

UAD??

Just so I am clear, the UAD is a signal processing card? Is it like a PCI card?
What advantage does it have over using software effects?

.....and why would you need 2?

UAD-1, the home studio's secret weapon to sound like the big boys. Oh yeah! Get the Fairchild comp and you will be in sonic heaven.

It's software, but the power is on the PCI card (it frees up gobs of computing power).

The number of available effects is limited by the DSP power of the card - Some studios use several UAD cards in a system so they can have all the effects they want in use at the same time.

I hate you guys...I just want you to know that. I'm all happy with my budget...$850 for monitors, $1000 for preamp, and whatever is left over for new mics, and then all of the sudden I read this thread and now somehow need to make room for UAD card. Thanks a lot. Bastards!

Don't worry. It gets worse before it gets better. Prepare to be broke !

Yeah, I know...now that I have some money, my studio is getting a serious upgrade, and I'm pretty sure the madness will never end. At first I was like ok, $500 max for a preamp...haha yeah right. $500 for monitors...yeah, not once I found out about the Mackie HR824s. My Rode NTK is just fine for me...oh, but I could save up for the rest of my life for a manley or a neumann. Yeah, it's never gonna end.

And add to that, the plugins are extremely high quality.

I want another one too.

A big ol' amen on the Fairchild! ;)
