Hello all,
quick question.

I currently have a U-PHORIA UM2 as my audio interface to my DAW, and am using an MX400 for inputs.

I am looking for an upgrade to the MX 400

should I be looking at something like a Xenyx Q802USB that includes a USB audio interface or will I get the same effect from adding a Xenyx 802 (basically the same mixer without the USB interface) in front of my U-PHORIA UM2?

I wonder if the U-PHORIA UM2 and the Q series of mixers share the same USB interface?

thoughts?

EDIT UPDATE:
Though my prepost searches didn't answer my question (hence the post), however my browsing has yielded a few results the indicate fewer links in the chain are better (i.e.plug directly into the UM2 and skip the mixer)

I've also seen references to the level of equipment I'm using/scoping as "toys"

This is a hobby for me and I will mostly be recording guitar, and korg vloca's and everything else will be something from inside Ableton, perhaps this forum is a bit out of my league.

ah well, all comments are welcome, I definitely won't be buying a $1500 audio interface in this lifetime so I'll have to make do with Behringer "toys"

thanks!!

:)

The Behr U-Phoria line is brand new, so you won't find many reviews or opinions on them at this point.
They have 24 bit A-D, so it is not the same hardware as the Xenyx USB mixers.
Sweetwater is selling them, which is usually a sign of decent/good quality.
For your descibed use, I'd recommend just using the Behr with nothing additional in the signal chain.

Aha!

exactly what I was after.

thanks!

So despite the fact that having a Behninger mixer would save me plugging in and out each instrument as I record, I risk compromising the sound by adding a <$100 component in the chain.

that makes sense.

and in fact I'm going to subtract the mx400 from the chain and just unplug and replug as needed.

thanks for the input!
